Come spend an event for adults with us in a cold and hot or hot and cold atmosphere on Friday 14.2.2025 19–24. The event is K18.

It's going to be both cold and hot!
The evening is packed with hot topics with refreshingly cold nuances. Dressing according to the theme is not mandatory, but it is fun. Are you cold or hot? Dig out your beach clothes and puffer jackets - now you can combine different seasons in your outfit completely freely.
During the event, you will also be among the first to explore our new exhibition The Giants of the Ice Age, which will open to the public on Saturday, 8.2.2025.

Pre-Party at the Science Restaurant and the Towards the Exhibition Lecture
Reserve your place in advance for the Science Restaurant Pre-Party and the Towards the Exhibition lecture, and ensure you are among the first to enter the event!
From 6 pm onwards, a pre-ordered hamburger buffet will be served at the Science Restaurant.
In conjunction with the buffet, we will organize a lecture Towards the Exhibition from 6:15–6:45 PM. During the lecture, designers of the Giants of the Ice Age exhibition, Päivi Garner and Sampsa Piira, will talk about the exhibition and its design.
Note! You must have a ticket to the event to participate in the Pre-Party and the Towards the Exhibition lecture.
Exciting performances
During the evening we are dealing with really hot and very
with cold things. Your safety is our top priority. Alcohol
can be enjoyed before attending the workshops, but staff will always evaluate, whether you can participate in the workshop.

Cold and hot disco
The music is at its peak and your eyes are on the dance floor! Do you want to dance in the cold or the hot? The disco consists of two tents - one is cold and the other is hot.

Are you annoyed? No problem! Come and destroy flowers and vegetables dipped in liquid nitrogen at the Raivoomo tent. You can vent your hot emotions and aggression in a safe way!

Keep your cool in hot places!
What is it like to be a stuntman? During the evening you will have the opportunity to hear about the profession from a real stuntman and ask him questions. At the end of the lecture you get to see a fire demonstration!

Mountain expedition
Come and hear real stories from the mountain expedition! You will also get to see the equipment needed for the expedition. Total duration 1 hour, which includes the 18-minute film "Svalbard". At the end you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Make long drink sorbet!
Molecular gastronomy is hot and liquid nitrogen is really cold. Come make a long drink sorbet!
In the workshop, you can upgrade your sorbet to an alcoholic one for a small additional fee.

Chili and menthol!
Choose one of Poppamies's chili sauces and the appropriate element to neutralize. What happens in your mouth? And what happens when you kiss while having chili and menthol in your mouth?
The workshop is led by a group from the University of Helsinki. You can also share your observations in a fun questionnaire!

Hot Topic Quiz
True or false? The Science on a Sphere event lets you find out how much you know about climate myths related to climate change and the Earth's climate history.
The quiz will be held non-stop throughout the evening. Each round will last for an indefinite period of time.

The science of fire and ice
In the laboratory you can experiment with the science of fire and ice. Can water be prevented from freezing? Can a fire rocket reach Mars?

Where do you feel love?
Come and attach stickers to the love figures in the places where you feel love. You will also get to paint on the thermochromatic wall with cold and hot water.

Let's pass the hot potato around among the visitors throughout the evening. When you get it, give it to the next person. -

Lectures
Immerse yourself in the fascinating lectures in the middle of an entertaining event, with your headphones on. The lectures will be presented from the stage at the Event Square. The duration of one lecture is 20 minutes.

The Chemistry of Love
Timo Partonen talks about the chemistry of love.

Why does chili burn and menthol cool?
In his lecture, Sulo Roukka explains why chili burns, menthol cools, and tannins make the mouth ache. It's all about the sense of touch that responds to chemical stimuli.
